Open Studio – August 16th, 10am to 4pm

We’re excited to host our very first Open Studio event at our workshop in Palenville, NY!

Stop by to check out our latest sculpture prototypes, shop our wooden puzzles and jewelry, or just hang out and chat about art, science, math, fabrication, or whatever sparks your interest. This is the first time we’re opening up our space to the public and we’re really looking forward to sharing it with you.

When we moved to the Catskills in 2019, we dreamed of hosting regular public events. But by the time we finished building our studio behind the house, the pandemic hit, and then...

Weekend Reading 7.20.25

Greetings friends, I’ve been away for a little while. I’ve been working long hours at my law firm and took some time to visit our home in Florida for a week during the fourth of July, we made some nice memories with our family sitting around talking and watching fireworks on Siesta Key Beach. A few days ago I enjoyed a picnic at my favorite botanical garden in Sonoma. Summer has been really lovely so far.

There are a few new things in the works right now, and some shifts that will occur soon. I’m a few steps closer to the...

A Message Drifts

https://amygoodchild.substack.com/embed

This series continues my explorations of the ways meaning can emerge from randomness. Each image is created using algorithmic systems that create the elements. There is an alphabet of symbols, a message generator and several approaches to glitch aesthetics. The result could be meaningful, or could be nonsense.

This article unpacks the components of the system: how the symbols are placed and distorted, how the sentences are constructed, and how variation is managed across the 3001 outputs. It also explores the underlying questions of what happens when randomness is shaped into something that feels like a message and...

Weekend Reading 6.1.25

Greetings friends, it’s been a minute! Happy summer, happy June! I spent last week in Florida working remotely from our house, the one we bought years ago and rent to snowbirds each winter. It was good to be back and spend a few days at the beach. I also took a trip to Greece for 10 days in the early part of May, that was amazing! I’ll post pictures soon. Did you catch the photos I shared of my spring trip to Switzerland last year? Woah the flowers and scenery!

I’m home in California for most of the summer and looking...
