В августе сдал на права. В Нью-Йорке это довольно простой процесс: учишь сам теорию, идешь в DMV сдавать. Допускается до 6 ошибок на 20 вопросов. Много вопросов про то, что делать, если ты покурил травы, и хочешь за руль. Варианты ответов: встать под душ, полежать пару часов, выпить пива. Бывают и сложные вопросы: можно ли поворачивать направо на красный свет? Правильный ответ: да, везде, кроме города Нью-Йорк. В штате уже можно.

После успешного прохождения теории, вам дают Lerner’s Permit — это специальные права, с которыми уже можно водить, при условии, что рядом сидит человек с настоящими правами, и вы не выезжаете на трассу (правила могут разниться от штата к штату). Можно ли ночевать в машине в Штатах?

Мне всегда интересно эксперементировать с бюджетными способами жить и путешествовать. Про Америку принято думать, что там все очень дорого, а спать в машине запрещено. Я решил проверить, можно ли в штате Нью-Йорк спокойно пожить в обычной машине как нормальный человек?

Чтобы ответить на этот вопрос, я по очереди ночую в лодочном порту, на стоянке грузовиков и на парковке знаменитого гипермаркета Волмарт:

Из личных новостей. В августе получил права в Нью-Йорке, так что осень прошла под знаменем дорожных путешествий. Напишу про это отдельно. Дорожные путешествия — топчик (так теперь говорят в Москве). И да, кстати, ВкусВилл — тоже топчик.

the promise of pancakes

As soon as we'd tied to our mooring ball in Majuro's lagoon, the worries of the previous 24 days had vanished only to replaced by the crushing weight of responsibility. Devine, being worry-free, wanted to have pancakes, sleep and check-in tomorrow, but Devine knows how uptight I am, and that this was not what we'd be doing first (even if it is what I wanted too *sigh*). My thinking was that I'd rather get the paperwork out of the way first, to get all of that worrying out of me so I can then eat pancakes in peace.
