Cyberdeck v1
During lockdown last winter, in between figuring out 12v boat electrics and learning to keep the stove going overnight, I managed to play more with my Raspberry Pi 4. My goal is to build a small hybrid as-open-as-possible computer/tablet, in which I controll the hardware and the OS.
In the process I got completely lost in r/unixporn, r/cyberdeck and watching HexDSL and DistroTube videos. The Ideal Cyberdeck in my head got re-shaped a dozen times, but instead of waiting for when I’m finally happy with it (could be never), I’ve decided to just share some progress.
The first version used a Pimoroni Hyperpixel screen over the RPi 4, Audacious player with a Winamp skin and a sweet Ready Player One fanart wallpaper.

Dry Toilet Installation
The work is done. Building a dry toilet was more work than we had anticipated, but we still prefer it over the ready-made models. We learned tons doing it, and now our toilet is perfectly suited to our space. The pandemic has pushed more people into boat and van living (to travel within their own countries) and towards simple systems. Looking at the Nature's Head website, they've had a 8-week waiting list for ages. It's either you wait for the thing, or you build the thing.

Лежу, кислород булькает в бульбуляторе. По коридору ходят белые человечки. Иногда зеленые — эти увозят трупы. Вчера вот двое померли. Пенсионеры какие-то.
Народу на этаже немного. В коридоре лежит всего несколько человек. Остальные вполне поместились в палатах.
У меня тут дед и два паралитика после инсульта. Один ваще плох. Просто лежит. Второй бодр, но толст как тюлень в 160кг. И ему тоже хреново. А я тут подумал, что если бы не дал по спорту пару лет назад, то тоже пришёл бы к такой туше лет за 10. Ужас какой.

Загрузка кода в чужой процесс на Linux
Оказывается грузить свой код в чужой процесс на Linux ничуть не менее увлекательно, чем на Windows. Я раньше не наведывался в этой темный угол, а вот на днях заглянул. Содержимое угла привычно обнадежило: залатанный древний загрузчик, дохлые мухи, пара растяжек, и грабли кругом. Все как мы любим. Задача была такая. Есть несколько загружаемых с помощью LD_PRELOAD модулей. Модули переопределяют поведение небольшого числа POSIX функций. Требовалось перенести сборку модулей на более свежую версию GCC. Казалось что может быть проще?.. Да, давно уже не ощущал себя насколько наивным, аж ностальгия пробивает. Ниже следует список обнаруженных граблей.
